The study, conducted in first-episode, drug-naïve patients with major depressive disorder, explored the relationship between childhood maltreatment, circadian preference and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP).
Its findings underline the importance of interpreting hs-CRP within the broader metabolic context, particularly body mass index, rather than as a pathognomonic indicator of depressive symptom severity.
